Cocina Lolo, the downtown Wilmington restaurant run by the owners of nearby La Fia, has announced it's closing its doors on Friday.

The modern Mexican eatery at 405 N. King St., has operated since July 2015.

"It is with much sadness that we have decided to close Cocina Lolo. Our doors will be closed at the end of lunch today. Thank you all for your support over the last 3 years," read a post on its Facebook page at 2 p.m. Friday.

The Facebook page was no longer operating Friday night. A message left at the eatery was not immediately returned.

Bryan and Andrea Sikora, who run La Fia restaurant in downtown Wilmington, opened Cocina Lolo at 405 N. King St.
in July 2015. They announced Fri., Aug. 31, they were closing the eatery after its lunch service.

The restaurant was located in bottom floor of the Renaissance Building, across from the Leonard L. Williams Justice Center, formerly the New Castle County Courthouse.

Bryan and Andrea Sikora created the concept for the eatery. The couple owns two other Wilmington restaurants, La Fia, their critically-acclaimed 421 N. Market St. bistro as well as Merchant Bar, across from La Fia.

They also own Hearth Kitchen in The Shoppes at Longwood Village in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania. It opened in June 2017.

At Cocina Lolo, Bryan Sikora, a celebrated chef in Philadelphia before coming to Delaware in 2013, said he wanted to showcase fresh, bright and sophisticated Mexican and Latin flavors.

The 45-seat eatery suffered some bumps in its three years. Cocina Lolo was closed for the entire summer of 2017. The Sikoras said they were renovating the space and wanted to revamp the menu.

They also told The News Journal previously that business at the restaurant had been strong, but inconsistent. The Sikoras said they didn't open for weekend brunch because there wasn't enough activity driving traffic.

Lolo customers have been posting comments this afternoon expressing sadness about the closing.

"You were our favorite spot! Your burritos were the best, margaritas amazing and amazing churros!" wrote Andi Baffone Degnan.
