Thoughts on Starboard's opening night

The Starboard in Dewey Beach opened for the season.

I went to The Starboard's opening night and my experience was exactly like how I imagined: delicious, green and wild.

Well, not exactly wild, but still incredibly fun.

I got inside about 7 p.m. and the place was already packed.

Since the event always falls on St. Patrick's Day weekend, everyone was dressed in outlandish green outfits to celebrate.

I grabbed myself a table and could feel the excitement in the air.

For those of you who don't know, The Starboard's opening weekend is kind of a big deal. It draws thousands to Dewey Beach and is considered the official kick start to the new summer season.

And so, because I wanted to pretend it was summer, I ordered myself an orange crush and a crab cake.

The crab cake is The Starboard's most popular sandwich.

The Starboard's crab cake is perhaps the best I've had on Delmarva. And I have tried quite a few.

The Dewey Beach restaurant broils its cakes to perfection. They're golden brown on the outside but creamy on the inside, with chunks of real crab meat.

After I ate, I wandered through the crowd.

The atmosphere had changed. The sun had gone down and the bar was more lively. People were dancing, taking shots and selfies. It was evident that everyone there was having a good time, including myself (even though I braved the party solo).

If you missed out on last night's fun, you can still check out everything The Starboard has to offer this weekend.

Live music for the rest of weekend includes:

Sat. 19 — Kristen and Johnny Phatt at 3-6 p.m.

Sun. 20— Bryen O'Boyle at 2-5:30 p.m.
