WHERE SHE SHOPS: Macy’s, Peeble’s, Famous Brand Shoes.

HOW SHE SHOPS: “I have a great time shopping with my daughter, Victoria Downes, even though she is a fast shopper and I am a person who has to look at everything.”

FASHION ICON: Katherine Hepburn. “Very slender, looked great in almost everything and the first in Hollywood to wear pants.”

MOST RECENT PURCHASE: A gown to wear to her grandson’s wedding that she bought at Macy’s at Christiana Mall. “A two-piece, long silver gown with a jacket. It really sparkles and I love to sparkle.”

FAVORITE DESIGN LABELS: Calvin Klein and Sag Harbor.

OLDEST ITEM IN HER CLOSET: “A beige lace dress I bought for my son’s wedding in 1988. I also wore it when my husband and I renewed our vows on our 49th anniversary.”

MANE, MANICURE AND MAKEUP: “For my hair, I go to Beach Waves in Lewes. I’ve been going Betsy Garloff to for 22 years. I have very fine hair and she knows just how to treat it. I must have my lipstick on before I leave the house. I love bright pinks or reds from Revlon. I do full makeup if I am going somewhere special.”

Marjorie Mounts wears a silver mesh-style formal dress and matching jacket by R&M Richards from Macy’s and silver sling-back heels from LifeStride.

BEST FOOT FORWARD: “I used to have more than 150 pairs of shoes but I broke my hip last year and I have retired my high heels. I did keep the ones I wore to my children’s weddings for sentimental reasons, although I will probably never wear them. I recently counted the shoes I have left and I have 74 pairs, including eight pairs of boots and 10 pairs of walking shoes.”

FAVORITE COLOR: “I have a lot of grays, reds and blacks in my wardrobe. I never buy anything yellow or green.”

FAVORITE FRAGRANCES: Elizabeth Taylor’s White Diamonds, “and the old-fashioned White Shoulders, although it is hard to find.”

WORTH THE SPLURGE: “An Easter hat. I love hats.”

NOT WORTH THE SPLURGE: “It’s all worth it. I am self indulgent when it comes to clothing.”

GO-TO OUTFIT ON A SATURDAY NIGHT: “A black velvet pant suit with a fancy blouse.”

STORY: Principal likes classy clothes

STORY: Pianist picks great clothes.

ORGANIZATION TIPS: “I am one of these color-coordinated people: all the white together, all the grays, all the beige. It’s the same with my shoes.”

FASHION EVOLUTION: “When I was young we were not affluent and I felt deprived because I wanted beautiful clothes and I sometimes got hand-me-downs from my sister. Then I grew up and realized that the things money can buy don’t matter, that I enjoyed clothes because I had an interest in fashion. My husband was an officer in the JAG (Judge Advocate General’s) Corps and we entertained and went to a lot of social events and I had to dress up for that.”

FASHION NO-NO: “It irritates the heck out of me when kids run around in jeans that have been pre-holed. I don’t understand paying $70 for a pair of ripped jeans.”

Marjorie Mounts wears a black silk tunic with three-quarter length sleeves with silk black-and-white patterned pants by AGB; Nickel’s open-toed black-and-white patent shoes; and a natural straw hat with black fabric flower trim.

ACE ACCESSORY: Jewelry. “My husband loved to buy things for me, including a single Mikimoto pearl pendant. I also love a heart my grandsons gave to me with my husband’s initials on it.”

PANTS OR SKIRTS? Skirts.

HEELS OR FLATS? “Two years ago, it would have been heels. Now, I have to go with flats.”

DIAMONDS OR PEARLS? Pearls.

WHY FASHION IS IMPORTANT: “You should always try to look your best no matter what the situation is. You should never lose interest in what you are wearing, how your hair looks. I told my daughter, ‘if I ever don’t want to go shopping you should worry because something is really wrong with me.’”
