Get physical Salisbury, Club Pilates is headed this way.

The popular workout studio founded about 10 years ago is quickly spreading across the U.S., with 244 studios currently open and more than 580 looking to open soon. Ed Horan and his wife, Tracey, are two of the newest owners of a Club Pilates franchise and are bringing the fitness craze to Salisbury.

Slated to open by mid-November, the studio is located at 1305 S. Salisbury Blvd.

“We do a variety of different types of training,” said Ed Horan, co-owner.

According to the Club Pilates website, the studio follows "Joseph Pilates' original Reformer-based Contrology Method, but modernized with group practice and expanded state-of-the-art equipment ..." Along with the Reformers, studios work with Barre, TRX, Bosu balls, Exo-Chair, mats, rollers and other workout techniques.

Horan describes Pilates as a core training workout. The Salisbury location will follow the pattern of the established studios, with 12 Reformers in its about 1,500-square-foot space, along with some other equipment, to offer various group classes.

Club Pilates offers a variety of classes, from beginner to advanced. Horan said walk-ins are welcome to try out demo classes and then hopefully become members. The Salisbury studio will work to vary its classes depending on what members want, he added.

The goal is to create a place where members want to come and not dread the workout.

“We want it to be an experience,” he said.

The Horans began looking at franchises about a year and a half ago. The couple currently lives in New York with a second home in West Ocean City, and they are looking to relocate. Ed has worked in banking for 35 years, while Tracey worked in nursing for about 30 years, he said.

“We just decided we want to do something else, plus we want to relocate from New York," he explained.

After working with a franchise consultant who offered a list of six businesses to the couple, Ed and his wife saw Club Pilates as the best fit because of the franchise's success and where the Horans could take it in Salisbury.

“This was kind of a perfect fit,” he said.

Founded by Allison Beardsley, Club Pilates saw enormous growth after Anthony Geisler took over the brand in 2015. Entrepreneur ranked the franchise among the "Top 500 Franchises in 2017."

The couple is not the first to bring Club Pilates to Maryland. Currently, the franchise has locations in Annapolis, Severna Park, Owings Mills, Hunt Valley and Frederick.
