Something old, something new.

Customers at Timeless Charm can purchase the best of both worlds with a mixture of new and vintage merchandise at the recently opened boutique. Owned by friends Diane Ellison, Mandie Lowe, Debbie Jenkins and Lacey Robinson, the boutique opened at the end of November. The shop takes up part of The City Florist's store, located on South Salisbury Boulevard.

“We were all kind of looking for something different to do," Ellison said of why the four women decided to open Timeless Charm.

Ellison owned a shop similar to Timeless Charm in The City Florist location about five years ago, but closed the business when family health issues came up. This time, the shop has a similar feel with its mixture of merchandise, but adds new elements like refurbished furniture and picture framing.

Walking into Timeless Charm, customers can find a combination of furniture, home decor, jewelry and other items. The refurbished furniture makes a statement in the space with bright colors of blue, pink and green.

Ellison said she and Lowe refurbish the furniture pieces. Being able to express their creativity on brainstorming ideas and reinventing an older piece is something they enjoy most about their new business.

One of their favorite pieces, Ellison said, is a bright blue table and chairs set with floral seat cushions. Another favorite (and already sold) is a child's desk painted in bright pink with a white chair.

"It’s not like if you go into a regular boxed store or a regular store. You’re going to find things here that aren’t really anywhere else,” she said.

The women of Timeless Charm shop at auctions to find their items, Ellison said. They'll also pay cash for items from those trying to dissolve a home or who just want to get a piece of furniture or housewares off their hands.

If a customer is interested in keeping a piece of furniture, but wants to give it a face-lift, Ellison said Timeless Charm will refurbish it for a customer or help them do it.

Among the refurbished furniture, customers can also find jewelry from big costume bobbles to dainty necklaces and bracelets. Various dishware pieces with intricate patterns or simple clear glass can also be found on the store's shelves.

Whether customers are looking for a new piece for their home or the perfect gift, Ellison said she and her friends want to make Timeless Charm a shopping destination.

Looking toward the future, Timeless Charm is beginning to plan for the spring season. The four co-owners are interested in holding events like a paint night when guests can bring a small piece of furniture to redo, she said.

The name Timeless Charm came easily, as it represents everything the shop offers.

“We were trying to think of what we have and a lot of what we have in the vintage world are things that are timeless," Ellison said.

That timeless element is what keeps those vintage pieces around, she explained, and new life is breathed into them with a fresh coat of paint or a new owner to style it.

"I’m a great believer that you can take something from the '50s, '60s, '70s and you can incorporate it into brand new decor in a home,” Ellison said.
