More than one million travelers passed through one of Delaware three toll plazas during the Fourth of July weekend.

Those numbers for the four-day period, between July 1 and July 4, dwarfed the figures for 2015.

Auto club AAA has said more Delawareans have been driving during the past year as gas prices have dropped. The average cost of a regular gallon of unleaded gasoline in Delaware on June 30 was $2.16, compared with $2.68 a year ago.

The busiest Delaware toll was at Interstate 95 near Newark. More than 400,000 drivers passed through its structure during the weekend.
