Summer vacation coming sooner for IR students

Summer is coming sooner for Indian River students, teachers and paraprofessionals.

The Indian River School District Board of Education has unanimously approved changing the end of the school year date for the 2016-2017 school year.

The last day for students was changed from June 16 to June 9. Additionally, the last day for teachers and paraprofessionals was changed from June 20 to June 13.

Preschool's last day will now be June 2 instead of June 9.

The changes come as a result of the district not needing to use surplus hours built into the school calendar in the event of poor weather.
