Delmarva Power announced Sunday it is sending more than 120 workers southward to help get the power flowing again in areas damaged by Hurricane Irma.

The effort is tied to mutual assistance networks coordinating the recovery. Delmarva Power is a subsidiary of Exelon Corp., which is dispatching a total of more than 1,800 employees and contractors to affected areas.

Delmarva Power crews prepare to caravan toward Florida in this undated submitted photo to help in the Hurricane Irma recovery.

“Crews from utilities across the country supported our response to Hurricane Sandy, and other major storms, and we are glad to return the favor,” said Gary Stockbridge, Delmarva Power region president.

Irma was forecast to strike Florida's Gulf Coast on Sunday and trail along the state's west coast on a track into western Georgia.
