There's a new baby at the Philadelphia Zoo, and it's an enormous one.

The zoo announced that Beau the giraffe was born Sunday, June 10. The newborn stood 5 feet, 7 inches tall at birth, and weighs about 100 to 150 pounds. He could someday grow to be 18 feet tall.

Baby giraffes (which are called calves) nurse for several months, then switch to an adult diet that includes twigs and new growth on trees, the zoo said.

Beau's father, Gus, came to the zoo in 2008 from a zoo in Texas. The mother, Stella, came to the zoo in 2003 from New Jersey.

Beau's older sibling, Abigail, about to turn 8, was also born at the Philadelphia Zoo.
