Fireworks were held in Rehoboth Beach on Sunday, July 1, on the beach with a large crowd on hand and local favorites The Funsters playing at the bandstand.

The Delaware Office of Highway Safety will be providing discounted Lyft codes at the beaches during Fourth of July week to limit the number of impaired drivers on the road.

Last year 38 people died in incidents relating to DUI, and there were nearly 4,000 DUI arrests and 1,000 DUI-related crashes in Delaware. Twenty-nine of those crashes occurred during the week of July 4.

According to the state, a DUI arrest can cost up to $10,000 when including attorney fees, fines, court costs, lost time at work, higher insurance rates, car towing and repairs. It could also result in the loss of a driver's license and, in Delaware, up to one year in prison.

Initially starting on June 30, the Office of Highway Safety is now providing Lyft codes worth up to $15 in value for rides in Lewes, Rehoboth Beach, Dewey Beach, Bethany Beach and Fenwick Island as part of the program SoberLift.

Soberlift is modeled after a similar Washington, D.C. program called SoberRide
