The trial of a Felton man accused of luring his victim to a Dover apartment with the intent to rob him before fatally shooting him started Monday in Kent County.

According to court documents, defendant Brett A. Scott and two other people were charged in June 2017 with a robbery that ended in the death of 21-year-old Dequan Dukes at the Pine Grove Apartments in Dover.

Court documents detail the plans of Scott, Gregory Sellers, Lisa Wagaman and Raymond Ward in the case.

A woman, whose name was redacted in court documents, told police that she agreed to lure Dukes to the apartment complex under the guise that she needed to get money from someone there, according to records. The only woman charged in the case was Wagaman, court documents show.

In return, the woman would receive half the money from the robbery, according to court documents.

When the woman arrived at the apartment complex, she already saw Dukes seated in a black Chevrolet, according to records. Scott approached the vehicle to ask Dukes for a cigarette.

The woman walked away and heard gunshots behind her, according to court records.

A man whose name was redacted from court documents told police he agreed to go to the Pine Grove Apartments to help Scott rob Dukes.

During the robbery, Dukes and 25-year-old Scott exchanged gunfire, according to Master Cpl. Mark Hoffman, a spokesman for Dover police. Dukes was fatally wounded, and police found him in his vehicle with a gunshot wound to the chest.

Scott was also struck several times by bullets but survived.

Sellers, 23, drove Scott to Bayhealth Kent General Hospital for his injuries shortly after the shooting, Hoffman said.

Police later identified Sellers, Wagaman and Ward as participants in the robbery plan, Hoffman said. Scott was identified by others as the shooter, records say.

Scott was charged with first-degree murder, conspiracy, first-degree robbery and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

Sellers, of Dover, was charged with first-degree robbery and conspiracy.

Raymond Ward was arrested in connection with a June 2017 robbery that turned fatal for 21-year-old Dequan Dukes. Ward is the fourth, and last, person to be arrested in the killing.

Wagaman, also of Dover, was charged with first-degree robbery and conspiracy.

Ward, of Wyoming, remains wanted on charges of first-degree robbery and conspiracy.
