An 18-year-old Laurel woman died in an apparently high-speed crash early Sunday.

State police said the woman was driving a 2004 Kia Optima northbound on Fire Tower Road just north of County Seat Highway when she "failed to negotiate a left curve," causing her to overcorrect and spin out. She struck a tree and died, police said.

State police said the woman wasn't properly restrained. Police haven't released her name as they go about contacting her family.

Fire Tower Road was closed for about three hours, police said.

Anyone with information about the crash can contact state police at 302-644-5020.
