Kim Kardashian West claims bodyguard's negligence led to robbery of millions in jewels

Television personality and fashion personality Kim Kardashian West and her insurance company have filed a lawsuit in Delaware court against the mogul's personal bodyguard.

The lawsuit filed in New Castle County Superior Court earlier this week seeks to recover some $6.1 million paid by the insurance company after West was bound and robbed of her jewelry in a Paris hotel two years ago. 

The complaint names Protect Security Inc., which did business as the Port of Wilmington Maritime Society, as the defendant alongside a California resident named Pascal Duvier, who is described in court documents as the chief officer of that company and Kardashian West's former bodyguard. 

The complaint claims Duvier was negligent in his duty to provide security to Kardashian West on Oct. 3, 2016, at the exclusive No Address Hotel (Hôtel de Pourtalès) where Kardashian West was staying during Paris Fashion Week. 

In the early morning hours, armed men stormed her room, bound her in the bathroom and made off with millions in jewelry, including "one-of-a-kind" pieces, the lawsuit states. As a result, insurer AIG Property Casualty Co. paid out $6.1 million per its policy with Kardashian West. 

The lawsuit claims the hotel had several security "breaches" that Duvier failed to address. 

Those breaches include a missing or broken lock on the hotel's courtyard gate, a concierge with no security training or background, a lack of security cameras and a broken intercom on the door separating the concierge's desk with the courtyard, the lawsuit claims.

"Upon information and belief, on the evening of Oct. 3, 2016, the defendants left the insured in the hotel alone without any security detail and/or bodyguard," the lawsuit states. 

The lawsuits said the bandits made their way into the hotel through the unlocked gate, past the watching concierge and robbed Kardashian West. 

The lawsuit claims breach of contract, negligence and misconduct and demands judgment of $6.1 million along with fees.  

The insurance company and mogul are being represented by Colin Shalk and Brian Demott of Wilmington.
