Bells jingled, Kris Kringled and the drummer boys pa-rum-pum-pum-pummed through downtown Saturday for the Wilmington Jaycees’ 55th annual Christmas Parade.

Market Street was lined with locals of all ages to watch the parade, which marched to Rodney Square featuring dance troupes, school bands, civic leaders and police officers.

Santa Claus, of course, was there, too. Children were encouraged to write letters to him that could be dropped off as he passed on the parade route.

Grand Marshall World Champion Gymnast Morgan Hurd waves to spectators during the Wilmington Jaycees 55th Annual Christmas Parade along Market Street Saturday, Nov. 24, 2018, in Wilmington, Delaware.

The parade is hosted by the Wilmington Jaycees, a young adult community group devoted to developing local leaders. Morgan Hurd, a 2018 world team gymnastics champion, was the grand marshal. The mayor and city council members also took part.

Saturday's parade was chosen to fall on the Saturday after Thanksgiving, called Small Business Saturday, for the 10th year in a row. Small Business Saturday was designed to keep spending local as an answer to the retail holiday Black Friday.
