EMS: 2-year-old girl stable after near-drowning in pond behind home

A 2-year-old is in stable condition after nearly drowning in a pond behind her home, according to a New Castle County Emergency Medical Services press release.

About 8:35 a.m., first responders arrived at a home on Ethel Circle near Wilmington for a reported drowning with CPR, according to the release. 

When responders arrived, the 2-year-old was in the house, awake and crying. There, her father, who had been shoveling snow, told them that she was found in a pond behind the home, according to paramedics. 

He said he removed her, attempted CPR and took her inside the home, the release said. 

The girl was taken to A.I. DuPont Hospital for Children by Millcreek Fire Company, accompanied by paramedics from New Castle County.

She was in stable condition, officials said.  

New Castle County EMS, Mill Creek Fire Company and New Castle County police responded to the incident.
