A 13-year-old boy who saved his family from a devastating fire after staying up late to watch Netflix has received a special care package from the writers of one of his favorite TV shows: "The Flash."

"What happened was I was watching my show, 'The Flash,'" Damir Carter said. "It was about 12 in the morning ... I heard noises and then I went in the hallway and the hallway was filled with smoke and I saw the fire.

"I starting yelling for everyone."

A care package of Flash goodies were sent Damir Carter. On New Year's Eve, Carter was episodes of The Flash on Netflix when a fire broke out inside his home. Carter was able to wake up his family members and help them get out of the burning building.

Carter called for his dad, who he thought was still asleep on the family's couch but was actually working. When his dad didn't answer, Carter called for his mom, Angela Marie Borden.

They both ran outside. Carter called 911 while Marie Borden quickly ran back for some clothes. The family lived in the 600 block of Wildel Avenue, near New Castle. One of the family's dogs was killed.

Marie Borden said Carter should have been asleep when the fire broke out. She had told him to go to bed hours earlier.

A Miquandale fire lost their home in a fire early Wednesday.

"I don't know where we (would) be if he listened," Angela Marie Borden said on Facebook. "Our house is gone, but we are still standing. We (were) told our breaker box was pulling too much outside power causing a spark in an outlet."

Delawareans have donated about $525 to the family on GoFundMe. Others have donated clothing and other items.

The care package from "The Flash" was stuffed with DVDs, posters, action figures and other memorabilia from the show, which features a costumed superhero crime-fighter with the power to move at superhuman speeds.

The gift also contained a note signed by the entire Flash team.

"Thanks for watching and being a hero," it said. "We hope you and your family are well. We're all thinking of you!"

Carter said he loved the gift and was extremely thankful to "The Flash" for sending it to him.

"When I do get in my new room, the posters will be going on the wall," he said. "I'll be pinning all that stuff up."
