A woman was seriously injured early Monday afternoon when a tree in Mill Creek fell on top of her in her backyard, according to New Castle County paramedics.

The fallen tree injured a woman in Mill Creek Monday.

Emergency responders were called after a section of a tree in the woman's backyard broke off and fell, trapping her under the fallen trunk.

The woman suffered leg and chest injuries, said PFC Yvonne Russell, a spokeswoman with New Castle County paramedics. She was treated and transported to a local hospital.

The downed tree is far from the only fallen limb throughout Delaware Monday, where high winds have ripped down power lines and closed roadways. The strong coastal storm brought heavy rain and wind to the state most of the day Monday and is expected to last into the evening.
