It was just after 1 p.m. when a 911 call was placed to the Sussex County Emergency Operations Center, reporting a man had been trapped under an automobile at Donovan Salvage Works Inc.

Troopers and EMS responded to 20262 Donovans Road in Georgetown where they found a 41-year-old man laying on the ground near a car. He was pronounced dead.

An investigation revealed the man, a customer, was trying to remove a part from the vehicle in the yard and had used a jack to raise the vehicle. A spare tire was placed underneath as a buffer, police said.

The car was on dirt and gravel and came dislodged from the jack, landing on the man, police said. Witnesses noticed him under the car and alerted the office, police said.
