One killed, another shot in Wilmington early Thursday morning

A 38-year-old man was killed in Wilmington around 1:30 a.m. Thursday, police said. 

Dwayne Wright, a city resident, was shot dead in the 200 block of S. Franklin Street, according to Wilmington Police. Police said medical personnel couldn't save him. 

A 44-year-old man arrived later at a local hospital with a gunshot wound police said he received during the S. Franklin Street shooting. Police said he's in stable condition. 

Wilmington Police said the investigation is ongoing. No arrests have been announced.

Wilmington police investigate after a shooting in the 200 block of S. Franklin Street in the city's Hedgeville neighborhood, reported about 1:35 a.m. Thursday.

Thursday's victims were the 68th and 69th people shot in Wilmington this year. Wright was the city's 19th gunfire homicide in 2018, the fourth person killed since Oct. 17.

Gun violence in Wilmington has tumbled dramatically this year by comparison with last, the deadliest for shootings on record in the city, according to News Journal records.

In 2017, there were 197 victims of gunfire in Wilmington and 32 of them died. The city already had registered 178 gunfire victims with 28 fatalities by Nov. 1, 2017.
