The Laurel Police Department is looking for suspects after three people were shot at a large gathering in the Carvel Gardens apartment complex early Sunday morning.

Police arrived in the 2800 block of Daniel St. around 2 a.m. to find people flooding out of an apartment and fleeing in cars or on foot, a Laurel Police Department Facebook post said.

"When making contact with the apartment (lessee) it was discovered three separate people had been struck by the gunfire," the post said.

The operator of one vehicle leaving the scene did not stop when commanded to, leading to a pursuit. Police were able to take the occupants of the car into custody after utilizing Stop Sticks to deflate the car's tires, the post said. They were later questioned and released.

Back at the apartment building, Laurel and Delaware State Police found "over 50 spent casings from various types of firearms were located inside and around the area," the post said.

On Tuesday, Laurel Police Department spokesman Kevin Lieber provided more information about the victims. A 26-year-old woman was shot seven times and is in serious but stable condition, as is a 17-year-old boy who was shot twice, he said. An 18-year-old woman was treated on the scene for a graze wound.

"We can confirm that the incident was isolated to one apartment and was not a random shooting," Lieber said. "The investigation is still in the early stages, and investigators are not ruling out the potential that this was a gang-motivated act at this time."

Anyone with information should contact Laurel Police Detective Gardner at 302-875-2244. Information may be provided anonymously through Delaware Crime Stoppers at 800-TIP-3333.
