Bayhealth will move patients into its new Sussex Campus on Tuesday, officials said.

Hospital officials will start transporting clients by ambulance from Milford Memorial to the Sussex Campus that morning. The transfer is expected to take one day to complete, officials said.

The campus' emergency and trauma center will be open starting at 2 a.m. Tuesday. The outpatient center will be open Wednesday.

For injuries and illnesses that are not serious enough for the ER, patients should go to the hospital's walk-in clinic at 301 Jefferson Ave. in Milford.

On the hospital moving day, the clinic will have special hours of 7:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The new hospital, located at Wilkins Road and Cedar Creek Road, is about 3.5 miles from Milford Memorial Hospital off Del. 1. It's seven times bigger than Milford Memorial Hospital.

The campus includes a six-story hospital with 128 single-patient rooms, an emergency department with 30 rooms (an increase from 11) and a 70,000-square-foot outpatient center for expanded diagnostic testing. The campus was planned to allow for future growth.

Following Bayhealth's move out of the Milford Memorial building, construction will begin to turn it into a nursing facility. Last winter, the state gave Nationwide Health Services, which acquired the land, permission to build a 150-bed skilled nursing facility and a rehabilitation center.
