Powerball winner: Delaware man doubles prize to $100,000 using Power Play
Karen OkamotoA 65-year-old Delaware man has claimed a $100,000 Powerball prize, the Delaware Lottery announced Tuesday.
The man, who remained anonymous, matched four numbers and the Powerball in the Oct. 20 drawing. Because he opted for the Power Play multiplier on his ticket, his prize went from $50,000 to $100,000 before taxes.
He will get $76,000 after taxes.
He bought two tickets with two lines each with Power Play at the Daily Market in Lewes, the Delaware Lottery said.
The winner, who has been playing the Delaware Lottery for more than 10 years, told officials he normally picks his own numbers but this time he used Quick Pick.
He said he planned to take a vacation with his winnings, then save the rest.
The prize was awarded at the lottery headquarters in Dover last Friday.
On that same day, a $10,000 Mega Millions ticket also was turned in.
Four of six Delaware Lottery prizes worth $10,000 or more remain unclaimed:
- $50,000 in Powerball on Oct. 27 at Shoprite, 1101 Governor's Place, Governor's Square Shopping Center, Bear. The winning numbers: 08-12-13-19-27 and Powerball 04.
- $10,000 in Mega Millions on Oct. 26 at New Castle Spirits, 738 Ferry Cut Off Road, New Castle. The winning numbers: 01-28-61-62-63 and Mega Ball 05.
- $10,000 in Mega Millions on Jan. 2 at Shore Stop No. 266, 1612 S. Du Pont Highway, Dover. The winning numbers: 01-42-47-64-70 and Mega Ball 22.
- $59,100 in Multi-Win Lotto on Dec. 29 at Redner's Warehouse Market, 25 Greentree Drive, Dover. The winning numbers: 01-03-09-13-31-33.
Delaware Lottery winners have one year from the date of the drawing to claim their prize. If a prize goes unclaimed, the money is returned to the Delaware general fund.
The Powerball annuity jackpot for Wednesday is an estimated $71 million.
The Mega Millions annuity jackpot for Friday is an estimated $90 million as nobody won Tuesday. The numbers drawn Tuesday were 28-34-37-56-60 and Mega Ball 12. The Megaplier was 2.
