For two weeks, a longtime Delaware Lottery player didn't realize she had won $50,000 in Powerball, officials said Tuesday.

A 56-year-old New Castle woman, who wished to remain anonymous, claimed on Friday the last of three $50,000 Powerball prizes won in Delaware in the Oct. 27 drawing, officials said.

“I knew someone had hit the jackpot, so I didn’t check (the ticket right away),” the woman told officials. She found out she won when she stopped for gas and checked her ticket Friday.

The woman, who has been playing the lottery for 25 years, used birthdays and anniversaries to pick her numbers, which matched four Powerball numbers and the Powerball.

She bought her ticket at the ShopRite in Governor's Square Shopping Center in Bear.

With her winnings – $38,000 after taxes, she said, “we’re going to pay some bills and put some towards the holidays.”

A third $50,000 Powerball winner – a 56-year-old New Castle woman – has come forward.

The other two $50,000 Powerball prizes won on Oct. 27 were awarded to a group of 13 co-workers who bought their ticket at Acme in Pike Creek Shopping Center and a 50-year-old Wilmington man who bought his ticket at Star Gas & Diesel in Milltown.

Three Delaware Lottery prizes worth $10,000 or more remain unclaimed:

  • $10,000 in Mega Millions, won on Oct. 26. The ticket was bought at New Castle Spirits, 738 Ferry Cut Off Road, New Castle. The winning numbers: 01-28-61-62-63 and Mega Ball 05.
  • $10,000 in Mega Millions, won on Jan. 2. The ticket was bought at Shore Stop No. 266, 1612 S. Du Pont Highway, Dover. The winning numbers: 01-42-47-64-70 and Mega Ball 22.
  • $59,100 in Multi-Win Lotto, won on Dec. 29. The ticket was bought at Redner's Warehouse Market, 25 Greentree Drive, Dover. The winning numbers: 01-03-09-13-31-33.

Delaware Lottery winners have one year from the date of the drawing to claim their prize. If a prize goes unclaimed, the money is returned to the Delaware general fund.

The Mega Millions annuity jackpot for Tuesday is an estimated $106 million.

The Powerball annuity jackpot for Wednesday is an estimated $107 million.

Tickets for both Powerball and Mega Millions can be bought in Delaware until 9:45 on the night of the drawings.
