A Dover Downs gambler hit the highest online jackpot to date — a $213,969.83 prize — on Christmas Day, according to Delaware Lottery officials.

The player won the money in Santa’s Super Slot game after placing a $7.50 bet on his phone at home, officials said. He won the progressive jackpot, which is awarded randomly — without matching symbols.

The bet size and number of pay lines determine the chances of winning the jackpot.

The Dover Downs winner has been playing online since Delaware became the first state to launch real-money, casino-style internet gambling in 2013, officials said.

Real-money online gaming is available to anyone 21 and older within Delaware's borders.

Players may use the iOS or Android apps available from Delaware Park, Dover Downs Hotel & Casino and Harrington Raceway & Casino. They also may play on a computer through the three casinos' websites.

Slots, blackjack, roulette and poker games are among the offerings.

More than $87.3 million has been played in online games this year through November, according to figures available on the Delaware Lottery's website. More than $85.2 million was won in online games during the same period.

July has been the busiest month in online gaming this year through November with more than $17.9 million gambled and $17.7 million won.
