Fresh fish? Seafood market owner faces lighthearted ribbing after being rescued from icy pond

The owner of a Hockessin seafood market is getting some teasing a day after falling through the ice in a Pike Creek pond.

George Esterling, owner of George & Sons Seafood Market, fell through the ice while chasing a dog, according to a firefighter. Esterling told 6ABC news he had gone out after his two dogs that were chasing geese.

Esterling was fine, and so were the dogs, according to a post on the seafood market's Facebook page on Saturday. "Unfortunately he wasn't able to grab us any fresh fish while he was in the water," the post read. "... Come get a hot bowl of She Crab Soup today and warm up with Dad!"

The accident happened at about 3 p.m. Friday at Carousel Park in Pike Creek. Jon Stewart of Mill Creek Fire Company told The News Journal that firefighters were already at the park responding to an alarm, and so were able to help immediately to rescue Esterling, who was about 40 feet from the bank.

"He was pretty lucky. It was perfect timing," Stewart said.

Esteban Parra and Josephine Peterson contributed to this report.
