After the collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore early Tuesday, many have questioned other bridge infrastructure across the nation and in Delaware.

The bridge's quick fall came after a large cargo ship struck a support beam, leading to an immediate plummet; however, experts have noted this as a peek into how other infrastructure is in the United States.

Rick Geddes, an infrastructure policy expert and director of Cornell University’s infrastructure policy program told USA Today that "this disaster reveals how exposed America’s critical infrastructure is to sudden and devastating accidents as well as intentional destruction.”

Delaware Online's bridge database shows the stark reality of the conditions of infrastructure in the state, where many bridges are listed as needing repairs or meeting the minimum requirements. This database is updated yearly.

In New Castle County alone, 10.3% of bridges need repair or corrective action. Many of the conditions for others are listed as poor, and just meeting the minimum tolerable requirements.

Other ratings include fair, good and poor.
