Downtown Milford residents are “waking up and smelling the coffee” in a whole new way, thanks to a new specialty coffee truck.

Parked in co-owner Ashley Schrock’s front yard on the corner of South Walnut and Seabury, A’ Latte Soul offers a variety of caffeinated beverages, hot chocolate and homemade biscottis.

“We’re getting to know the neighborhood in a whole new way,” said Heather Landis, co-owner. “It’s been great putting names to faces you see almost every day.”

Landis and Schrock often talked about opening a cafe together. But after a visit to the Taco Reho food truck in Rehoboth, the two began to brew a new idea.

“We shifted gears and everything happened really quickly,” Schrock said. “And honestly, the trailer has been a great way to get our feet wet.”

The women bought the trailer in February and recruited friends and family to help give it a needed facelift. The old school-bus-yellow truck has been transformed into a chic, dark blue coffee making machine.

Rebecca Hunter starts her morning with a coffee from A’ Latte Soul in Milford.

The menu offers traditional coffee and espresso drinks made with Swell Joe Coffee beans and roasts from Lewes. Hot and iced teas are also available, and Landis and Schrock can whip up a mean specialty drink with flavors like Snickers, Peppermint Patty, Reese’s and chai, which they refer to as, “Christmas in a cup.”

A’ Latte Soul is open twice a week due to Landis and Schrock’s busy schedules. However, the trailer has made several appearances this summer at local events like Milton’s Truckin’ Tuesday.

This fall, the women hope to host weekend “cafe nights” in Schrock’s front yard.

“Maybe hang some twinkling lights in the trees, have a little live music and get the whole community out here,” Landis said. “It’s fun being able to use your passion to connect with people.”

Although Landis and Schrock are enjoying making joe on the lawn, they haven’t given up their dream of owning a cafe one day.

“For now, this is perfect for us,” Schrock said. “But I think that is the ultimate dream. We’ll get there one cup at a time.”
