Bethany Beach builder Marnie Oursler is in the spotlight on the new DIY show "Big Beach Builds."
The DIY Network will be showing Delaware some love with the premiere of "Big Beach Builds," focusing on Bethany Beach builder Marnie Oursler.
In February 2016, Oursler, of Marnie Custom Homes, was the star of the pilot premiering on HGTV. From there, the show was picked up as full series by the DIY Network in March 2016.
The show, with a 13-episode first season, will focus on Oursler's efforts to reform classic beach abodes into modern living spaces, all while retaining their classic coastal charm.
The show will premiere at 9 p.m. Monday, March 20, on the DIY Network.
Oursler began her career in 2003, two years after she was graduated to college. She moved to Bethany, where her family spent vacations during her childhood. In 2004, she built a house for herself because she was unable to afford a builder. She built her second house in 2006 and in 2007 Marnie Custom Homes was founded.
"I'm a fifth generation home builder," Oursler said in a previous interview. "I grew up in the field. People say instead of a pacifier I had a 2-by-4 in my mouth. I grew up in the field. My dad taught me."
At the time, she couldn't say much about the show's plans but did tease some of the spots.
"We have some awesome, awesome locations," she said. "A lot of waterfront, beachfront and oceanside houses in some really cool areas. We have a lot of neat builds and I definitely think we are going outside the box of what people would think to do when they renovate, so I think we're going to bring a lot of value to viewers."
