IR seeks residents to serve on budget committee

The Indian River School District is seeking members of the public to join its Citizens Budget Oversight Committee.

Members of the committee will serve in an advisory role and will make recommendations to the Indian River Board of Education regarding financial matters.

Duties of the committee include reviewing monthly and quarterly financial statements, reviewing the annual budget before presentation to the Indian River Board of Education and reviewing possible trends and future needs of the district.

The committee will be comprised of the district superintendent, the director of finance and 10 citizens who reside in the Indian River School District, and it will meet at least quarterly, with the chairperson giving a report on the committee's activities at an Indian River Board of Education public meeting.

Term length will be for a minimum of two years, after which members can continue to serve at the discretion of the Indian River Board of Education.

Those interested must submit a letter of interest, an application, which can be found on irsd.net, a resume explaining their qualifications and references.

Documents should be submitted to district Superintendent Mark Steele at 31 Hosier St., Selbyville, or by email to mark.steele@irsd.k12.de.us. A selection committee with the superintendent, director of finance, a member of the Indian River Board of Education, a member from the Indian River Education Association and two parents or community members will review the applications and pick the 10 candidates.

All committee members must attend required training provided by the Delaware Department of Education.
