The Starboard in Dewey Beach will host its annual Bloody Mary Contest May 21. This will be the fourth year of the contest.

The Starboard Restaurant will host its fourth annual Bloody Mary contest 3 p.m. Sunday.

Known for its creative and occasionally absurd Bloody Mary creations, the contest will feature five judges presiding over a troupe of local restaurants and their bartenders competing for the title, prize money and bragging rights.

Past years have seen everything from Bloody Marys topped with lobster tails, whole cheeseburgers and even fried chicken.

Starboard co-owner Dickey Heidenberger will return to emcee the event in his signature red suit. Watch the Starboard defend its title for most creative as others come in the hopes of taking home the grand prize of $500 for the best overall Bloody Mary.

The Starboard in Dewey Beach, known for its Bloody Mary bar everyday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., will host the fourth annual Bloody Mary Contest May 21.

“It’s going to be summer before we know it, and these spring traditions are a fun way to enjoy our town before the crowds come out,” said Steve “Monty” Montgomery, owner of the Starboard.

After the contest, Kristen and Johnny will perform an acoustic set, as they do each Sunday from 9:30 p.m. till close.

Lauralea returns Wednesday, May 24, and then each Wednesday at 9:30 p.m.
