Delaware State Police sergeant newest member of Indian River High School Hall of Fame

John Scott "J.S." Evans, Jr. is the newest member of the Indian River High School Hall of Fame.

John Scott "J.S." Evans Jr., a Frankford resident and a 1989 graduate of Indian River High School, has been selected to join the the Indian River High School Hall of Fame.

Evans is a sergeant with the Delaware State Police and is the supervisor of the Criminalistics Unit at Troop 4 in Georgetown. He has been a patrol trooper and a detective, serving as a supervisor of both, as well as a K-9 handler and supervisor at the Delaware Information and Analysis Center where he supervised intelligence analysts to ensure information between Delaware and the federal government was shared.

"I can't think of a finer person to put in the Indian River High School Hall of Fame for what he has done for his community and how he has lived his life," said Indian River High School Principal Bennett Murray in a release.

Prior to serving in the Delaware State Police, Evans served in the U.S. Coast Guard Reserves from 1988 to 1994, joining the state police in 1994.

He also volunteered with the Ocean View Church of Christ and Lower Sussex Little League. Evans remains an honorary member of the Dagsboro Volunteer Fire Company.

“I love being a trooper and after 23 years, I still love going to work every day,” Evans said in a release. “The goals I never stop reaching for are to be a good husband, a good father, a good friend and a good citizen. Those are the true long-term goals, the ones that will mean the most to you and the goals that you should always strive to be the best at.”

The Indian River High School Hall of Fame was created to honor Indian River graduates who have made "outstanding achievements" in the world, demonstrating great character, citizenship and leadership that would inspire students in pursuit of excellence.

Previous inductees to the hall of fame include educators, artists, civic leaders, athletes, first responders and others from across the country.
