The incident occurred at about 12:44 a.m. near the 600 block of North Bedford Street, where three people were lying on the railroad tracks when they were struck, according to a preliminary investigation. Alcohol may have been a factor in the incident, police said. No charges have been filed.

This is the second train fatality in Georgetown this year. In May, a pedestrian was hit by a train near Douglas Street in Georgetown.

In that incident, Leonor Cax-Chavez, 37, of Georgetown was pronounced dead at the scene after a Delmarva Central Railroad train struck Cax-Chavez, who was lying on the tracks.

The May crash was the first of two train accidents that week in Sussex County. A deadly crash involving a train and a vehicle happened at Bacons Road between Powell Farm Lane and Country Walk near Delmar.
