Worcester County fills economic development position

Merry Mears, formerly the Former Worcester County deputy director, is now the Economic Development Director.

Former Worcester County Deputy Director Merry Mears has taken on the role of Economic Development Director for the county.

The former director, Bill Badger, resigned at the beginning of September citing lack of support from the county government.

Mears stepped into the position officially on Oct. 21, according to a press release.

“I’m honored to serve in this capacity, and to continue working with the County Commissioners to attract and retain businesses while facilitating innovation and job growth in our community,” Mears said. “I remain focused on building and sustaining these types of strategic partnerships to establish and grow local industries and jobs.”

Mears has 15 years of economic and workforce development experience, and began working as the deputy director for the county in 2012. Previously, she was the director of the Workforce Development Division of the Tri-County Council for the Lower Eastern Shore.
