Shore Craft Beer Fest coming to downtown Salisbury

The Shore Craft Beer Festival, an event that has been held in Ocean City for the past two years, will make a move to downtown Salisbury on June 18, kicking off what city officials hope will turn into a series of festivals and other events in the city.

Recent downtown revitalization efforts, including an ongoing $1.5 million update to the 40-year-old Riverwalk, seem to have attracted the attention of beer festival organizers.

“They actually approached us,” said Mayor Jake Day. “I think it will be a really fun event.”

The festival will feature craft beers from 14 local breweries, including Evo and Rubber Soul in Salisbury and Tall Tales in Parsonsburg, according to the festival website. Each brewery is bringing at least two beers.

The event, which will be held in the streets near Headquarters Live, will also feature food trucks, live music from the band Eastern Electric, a plein air painting event, pottery throwing, a home brewing tent and a specially brewed Salisbury hometown beer. Both VIP and general admission tickets will be available.

City officials will hold a ribbon-cutting for the renovated Riverwalk during the festival, Day said. The final phase of the project along the stretch of river near the Market Street Inn will begin soon. The entire project should be completed in late June.

New walkways stamped to look like a wood boardwalk and black aluminum railings are replacing an old exposed aggregate walk that was installed in 1977 as a joint project of the Greater Salisbury Committee and the city.

“Shore Craft Beer Fest is a great fit for downtown Salisbury, and it presents the perfect opportunity for us to cut the ribbon on our beautiful new Riverwalk,” said Day.  “I’m excited to invite residents and visitors to come sample local craft brews and enjoy what we hope will become a summer family tradition in our downtown.”

To help promote and commemorate the Riverwalk ribbon cutting, the city is seeking design submissions for T-shirts which will be available at the event. Designs must focus primarily on the Riverwalk, but may incorporate the Shore Craft Beer Fest.

Original artwork is due no later than June 1.  Submissions can be any medium, any size.  Physical works may be mailed to the Mayor’s Office.  To submit a design electronically, email it to cdemone@salisbury.md
