4 Salisbury spots for Pokemon trainers to catch 'em all

In case you haven't been paying attention for the last week or so, a Pokémon frenzy has gripped the nation.

Straddling the real and virtual worlds, in an augmented-reality where evolving, battle-ready creatures exist to flourish and fight, Pokémon GO is carrying players off of their sofa and onto the sidewalks, and Salisbury is no exception.

With the aim of providing our readers with the best locations to find their Charizards, Squirtles and Bulbasaurs, here's the Daily Times' top four Pokemon GO spots:

1) The Centre at Salisbury Mall

According to Jason Plaskon, a member of Macy's administrative support team, the Centre boasts a couple of spots that guarantee Pokémon trainers “free items galore.”

“There's a few great spots here. One at the Greene Turtle and one at the Wicomico County Library branch,” Plaskon said. “I hit both of them literally every time I'm on break.”

2) Salisbury University

With about 15 “Pokéstops” and two gyms, SU hosts a wealth of stopping points for every determined Pokémon GO player.

“There's a ton of nodes here, but you have to walk around campus a bit to get to them,” said Andrew Myers, who's been biking around the city for much of the last 24 hours trying to add to his Pokémon collection. “They make you work for it, but it's worth it.”

3) The Downtown Plaza

The entire downtown Salisbury area is apparently a hotspot, according to Marissa Metcalf, a stylist at Edit Downtown Salon.

“Half of our team plays – we actually have a Pokéstop right outside the store,” Metcalf said, admitting that she isn't a player herself. “Everyone's down here with their phones, stopping in the road and catching their Pokémons with their Pokéballs or whatever you call it.”

4) The Salisbury Zoo and City Park

The Ben's Red Swings Playground is a Pokespot in Salisbury.

For the devoted Pokémon trainer, the entire stretch of the park and zoo – from the park bridge to the alligator exhibit – is apparently the place to go.

“There's so many places to stop here, and if you feel like hatching your eggs it's a great place to walk around,” said Jacqueline Herrmann, 15, of Laurel, Del. “I mean, I get to play my game and wander around seeing the animals in the same trip.”
