Local fans of HGTV’s television show, “House Hunters,” will soon see their hometown in an upcoming episode.

Couple J.D. and Jenny Schroen brought the show to Salisbury when the husband and wife duo were looking for their forever home. The episode, produced by Pie Town Productions, was filmed this past week and will likely air on HGTV in the coming months.

"House Hunters" is a reality show covering the process of homebuyers searching for their next place with the help of a Realtor.

Jenny moved to Salisbury about two and a half years ago, marrying J.D. and taking on the role of parenting  their four children. Jenny is a graphic designer and J.D. is a certified public accountant, investment advisor representative and registered representative with Comprehensive Financial Solutions. The two also own a few laundromats.

She said she originally looked into being on a renovation show about a year and a half ago, but shows like “Fixer Upper” and “Property Brothers” were not filming in the area while “House Hunters” was filming nationwide.

After a process of phone interviews and a video submission, the couple was chosen and Pie Town Productions headed to Salisbury. With the help of her own local Realtor, Don Bailey, Jenny said she found three homes in the area as possible options and helped producers with other filming locations like a scene in Brew River Restaurant.

Salisbury Mayor Jake Day said the couple got in contact with him for other suggestions on filming locations.

The Schroens were looking for a 4,000-square foot home with five to six bedrooms and four bathrooms in the $550,000 to $600,000 price range.

"When it comes to style, we really don't match up," Jenny said.

With J.D.’s style being more traditional and Jenny’s style more mid-century modern, she said the final decision was a compromise between the two’s styles and what was best for their children.

"My main goal was to help them find a home that they wanted," said Bailey, the Schroens' Realtor with Coldwell Banker.

Bailey said his responsibilities as a Realtor with the Schroens were the same as any other client. Adding filming for "House Hunters" on top of that was a challenging, but great, experience, he said.

The production company will be back in about a year to film a “House Hunters: Where Are They Now?" episode, Jenny Schroen said.

“I really want Salisbury to keep growing,” she said about bringing the show to the city and showing it off to viewers.
