A man who fell into a trash compactor Saturday evening in Ocean City is in serious condition at a shock trauma hospital, authorities confirmed Sunday.

Ocean City Police and Emergency Medical Services responded to the Carousel Hotel at 118th Street and Coastal Highway around 5:45 p.m. July 29 when a 20-year-old man was injured in a large trash compactor used by the hotel, said Ocean City Police Department spokeswoman Lindsay Richard.

After extracting the victim, the Maryland State Police Trooper 4 helicopter flew the man to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, Richard said.

He is being treated for serious but not life-threatening injuries to his lower extremities.

Maryland Occupational Safety and Health are investigating the incident.
