The 21-year-old bicyclist involved in an early morning hit-and-run collision on Aug. 30 has died, police say.

Veronika Badurova, a Slovakian who was in the country on a J-1 student visa, died from her injuries on Friday, Sept. 1, according to Lindsay Richard, spokeswoman for the Ocean City Police Department.

UPDATE: Charges for Snow Hill man in connection with hit-and-run

At about 3 a.m. on Aug. 30, in the area of Second Street and Philadelphia Avenue, Badurova was riding south on Philadelphia Avenue when she was struck by an SUV heading the same direction, police said.

The driver failed to stop after the collision, according to police, and Badurova was transported to Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury.

The suspect has not yet been identified by police, and charges have not been announced. Richard said details would be available later Wednesday.

The death of the student brought support of a local business that J-1 students frequently visit.

On Sunday, the Alibi Room on Baltimore Avenue in Ocean City held a fundraiser to help Badurova’s family.

Jonathan Tippett, owner of the downtown live music venue, said it was a natural continuation of the business’ normal routine.

“We usually have a Balkan or European night once a week with a great deal of J-1 students attending to dance and have a good time,” Tippett said. “This time we took contributions for the family at the door.”

The Alibi Room raised $700, which Tippett said would be passed directly to Badurova’s family to pay for expenses.
