Salisbury police say the Willards man charged in a Tuesday robbery at a Salisbury PNC Bank was also responsible for a second bank robbery less than two hours later.

Bobby Lee Hornsby Jr.

Bobby Hornsby, 38, faces charges of robbery, theft, first- and second-degree assault and resisting arrest in the first robbery, and charges of armed robbery, robbery, theft and eluding police in the second.

Just before 12:40 p.m. Nov. 5, a news release shows police responded to the Hebron Savings bank at 1008 W. Main St. because holdup alarms were going off.

Police learned an unmasked man had entered the bank and demanded money, displaying a note to bank employees before fleeing with money, according to the release.

Detectives working with the Wicomico County Sheriff's Office on a robbery at the PNC Bank at 1512 S. Salisbury Blvd. that was called in at about 11 a.m. had obtained a description of the suspect and vehicle in that case, the release states.

When they responded to the Hebron Savings Bank, the release said, the detectives recognized a vehicle matching the description from the PNC Bank robbery being driven by a man.

A sheriff's deputy assisted the detectives, according the release, in approaching the vehicle near South Salisbury Boulevard and Vine Street.

However, the man fled, leading law enforcement on a chase through Salisbury. The chase ended at Ocean Gateway and the Route 50 Bypass near White Lowe Road, where the suspect's car collided with a sheriff's office vehicle, according to the release.

Police said the driver was Hornsby, who matched the description of the suspect in the Hebron Savings Bank robbery, according to the release.

On Tuesday evening, he was waiting transport to the Wicomico County Detention Center, where he would have an initial appearance before a district court commissioner.
