Ocean City police have recovered 10 stolen brass fire standpipe valves.

Ocean City police are encouraging people to check for missing valves on the system that allows firefighters to get water to the upper levels of buildings.

Investigators recovered 10 stolen brass fire standpipe valves, according to a news release, which were likely taken from unknown locations in the northern part of Ocean City.

The valves help fire personnel get water quickly from the ground level to the upper levels of a building, the release states, and without the valve, the system is inoperative.

Citizens and condominium associations should inspect their systems and contact police if they discover missing valves, according to the release.

Anyone who finds any missing valves or has information regarding the recovery of the valves is asked to contact the Ocean City Police Department at 410-723-6600.
