From biggies like the Air Force’s Super Galaxy to a World War II era bomber, the OC Air Show recently added five more performers to its growing list for the June event.

A C-5M Super Galaxy touches down at Dover Air Force Base, Del., on Nov. 6, 2010.

In a series of announcements billed as five performers for five days, organizers of the Ocean City event said on their Facebook page the following five acts will make an appearance during OC Air Show on June 16-17:

  • The C-5M Super Galaxy from the 436th Airlift Wing based at Dover Air Force Base in Delaware will fly on one day only Sunday, June 17. The Super Galaxy is the largest transport aircraft in the U.S. military and one of the largest in the world.
  •  The C-17 GlobeMaster III, another Air Force biggie, will hold a flyover Saturday, June 16. The Globemaster from the 436th Airlift Wing out of Dover Air Force Base in Delaware, is the newest, most flexible cargo aircraft to enter the airlift force.
  • The US Special Operations Command Parachute Team, called the Para-Commandos, will kick off the air show event on both days. The team is composed of volunteers from the US Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines and government civilians who are assigned to Special Operations Command.
  • The “Panchito” B-25 Bomber,  made famous during the World War II Doolittle raid on Japan when 16 B-25s were launched off the aircraft carrier USS Hornet, will be at the air show on both days. And the Delaware Aviation Museum Foundation is offering the chance to experience what it was like for flight crews during World War II on board Panchito. The flights will be out of the Ocean City Airport and will be available June 15, 16 and 17 for a $425 donation to the Delaware Aviation Museum Foundation.
  • Rounding out the 5-performer list is a P-51 Mustang demo by Scott “Scooter” Yoak in “Quicksilver,” showcasing the incredible maneuverability and unmistakeable sound that made this World War II era fighter the legend of its time. The P-51 Mustang is an air show favorite.
The B-25 Mitchell "Panchito" flies over 16th Street in Ocean City during the Ocean City Air Show.

Headlining this year’s show over the beach and Boardwalk in Ocean City are the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds, who will present precision aerial maneuvers to exhibit the capabilities of modern, high-performance aircraft.

The event will also feature a wide variety of military and civilian demo teams including the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter and the ever-popular GEICO Skytypers and its Miss GEICO boat featuring an air-sea duel.

And in a mini-curtain raiser for the June’s big show, the Royal Canadian Air Force Snowbirds will provide a midweek spectacle for Ocean City visitors on May 23, when they perform at 3rd Street at around 2 p.m. The Snowbirds' nine aircraft demonstration will include close proximity formation passes and aerobatics.
