An autopsy was conducted Monday morning to determine the cause and manner of death of a woman who apparently fell from an apartment balcony in Ocean City.

Ocean City police are investigating an incident at the intersection 53rd Street and Coastal Highway. Investigators were on the third floor balcony.

The victim was a 25-year-old woman from the Baltimore area, said Lindsay Richard, spokeswoman for the Ocean City Police Department.

Her name so far has not been released. Police said Sunday that family members were still being notified, police said.

Police said the woman fell from an “elevated position” early Sunday morning.

Officers responded to an address on 53rd Street at 5:55 a.m. for an unconscious person, but the patient was determined to be dead by the Ocean City Emergency Medical Service, police said.

No other details were released, but officers were seen conducting an investigation on a third floor balcony at a complex at 53rd Street and Coastal Highway.

Several deaths from balcony falls in the resort have been reported in recent years.

Last July, a 37-year-old man was listed in critical condition after he fell backward to the ground from the railing on a third-floor balcony at the 14th Street Commander Hotel. Alcohol played a role in the fall.

In March 2017, a woman died after falling from a balcony at the Holiday Inn at 17th Street in Ocean City. The death was deemed a suicide.
