Maui Jack's Waterpark, located on Chincoteague Island, held its grand opening on Friday, June 29, 2018.

Slip and slide into summer at Maui Jack's Waterpark.

The brainchild of Blue Water Development, Maui Jack's Waterpark is bringing a new type of entertainment to Chincoteague Island. The park, located at 6742 Maddox Blvd., held its grand opening on Friday, June 29.

“The whole reason why we did this was obviously to enhance the area for our local area public in Chincoteague, but also for our campground next door which is the KOA Resort," said Dean Geracimos, Blue Water Development chief operations officer.

The park began welcoming guests earlier this month, but that time was used to work out problem areas and finish completing certain areas of the park.

“It gave us some time to get our act together and make sure that we’re putting out the best product,” Geracimos said.

The real estate development company chose Chincoteague as it was a natural fit to pair with the Chincoteague Island KOA Resort. Blue Water Devleopment recently updated the campground with new cottages and safari tents, Geracimos said.

Maui Jack's was a natural pairing to the campground, putting it adjacent as an additional amenity for KOA guests, but also serving Chincoteague and the surrounding Delmarva area.

Now guests can enjoy multiple water slides, cabanas, a children's area and a lazy river. The park also houses Keko's Bar and Grill and a concessions area to refuel.

“The response has been fantastic," Geracimos said.

On June 29, the waterpark was packed with guests enjoying the various waterslides and riding down the lazy river. The park utilizes its space by giving visitors various slide types and other splash, and water tools.

Maui Jack's is an explosion of color with, its use of bright colors like lime green, ocean blue and sunny orange and yellow. Matched with the clear water, the park works to create a day or weekend in paradise.

Guests had their feet in the sand at Keko's Bar and Grill as they sat at colorful high-top tables. But, others were hitting the concessions stand for a grab-and-go food item to get right back into the action.

Geracimos said guests can expect a high level of hospitality at Maui Jack's. As the park gains steam, he said Blue Water Development would like to see guests continue to have a positive experience and see Maui Jack's as a positive addition to their vacation.

“We want this to be a positive for the community,” he said.
