Mega Millions, Powerball jackpots together worth almost $660 million

For Delaware Lottery players who like to take a chance only when the jackpots are big, Mega Millions and Powerball are making things exciting.

And the jackpots got even bigger after Wednesday night's Powerball drawing after no one matched all five white balls and the Powerball. The Powerball lottery is up to $253 million ($148.4 million cash option) since Aug. 11. One ticket in Michigan won $1 million in Wednesday's drawing. The winning numbers were 41-53-59-63-66 and Powerball 03.

No Mega Millions ticket matched all six numbers drawn Tuesday night, which bumps up the estimated jackpot for Friday's drawing to $405 million. That's in the top 10 Mega Millions jackpots of all time, according to a press release. The winning numbers drawn Tuesday were 02-22-29-31-34 and Mega Ball 01.

Combined, the Mega Millions and Powerball jackpots are worth about $658 million.

The jackpot for the Mega Millions lottery, which is drawn Tuesday and Friday nights, is worth $235 million if taken as a lump sum. The jackpot was last won on July 24.

Thirty tickets matched four numbers plus the Mega Ball on Tuesday night for the game's $10,000 third prize. Six of those were actually worth $30,000 because they included the Megaplier, an option for an extra $1 in most states.

"We've had a $1 million winner for both Powerball and Mega Millions in Delaware this year so far," said Vernon Kirk, director of the Delaware Lottery. "It'd be great to see another big winner from Delaware."

Last month, a 69-year-old Ellendale man claimed a $50,000 Powerball prize from the June 13 drawing.

Tickets for Mega Millions and Powerball drawings are sold until 9:45 p.m. on the day of the drawings. They cost $2 each.

The odds of winning the Mega Millions jackpot are 1 in 302,575,350. The winner must match five white balls (numbered 1 to 70) and the gold Mega Ball (numbered 1 to 25).

The odds of winning the Powerball jackpot are 1 in 292,201,338. The winner must match five white balls (numbered 1 to 69) and the red Powerball Ball (numbered 1 to 26).
