Trump: Record-breaking Hurricane Irma is 'not good'

WASHINGTON — President Trump expressed worry about the path of Hurricane Irma on Wednesday, saying that the Category 5 storm now bearing toward Florida is "not good."

Trump addressed the hurricane before meeting with congressional leaders to discuss his fall legislative agenda. Hurricane Harvey relief is already at the top of that list, with the White House requesting $7.85 billion as a down payment on federal recovery and cleanup efforts.

"We have a lot to discuss, including the fact that there is a new and seems to be record-breaking hurricane toward Florida and Puerto Rico and other places," he said. "It looks like it could be something that will be not good. Believe me, not good."

Trump declared a state of emergency for the U.S. Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico and Florida on Tuesday in anticipation of the storm's landfall, mobilizing the Federal Emergency Management Agency to begin positioning disaster relief resources in the path of the storm.

In brief comments to reporters in the Oval Office, Trump also said he hoped Congress would take up legislation to address the legal status of undocumented immigrants who arrived in the United States as children.
