Wednesday crash with DART bus in Newark killed 1 person, injured 6
A Newark man died Wednesday in a crash with a DART bus, according to police.
Newark police said 55-year-old Thomas Polis was driving east on West Chestnut Hill Road and crossed the green light at South College Avenue, intending to go straight through. A DART bus, coming from the opposite direction, turned left at the intersection.
The car and the bus, driven by a 54-year-old woman from Wilmington, collided head-on, police said.
Polis was taken by ambulance to Christiana Hospital and later died from his injuries.
The DART bus driver wasn't hurt. Six people on the bus were taken to the hospital.
No charges have been filed and the investigation is ongoing, Newark police said.
