DO-DELAWARE

DO Delaware: Long weekend means lots of options (and not just at the beaches)

The News Journal

GO-GO

Wilmo a Go-Go has grown up over the years from a very DIY vintage car show in downtown Wilmington to a sprawling event with rockabilly, a mustache contest, pin-up style and, of course, cars.

The Memorial Day weekend event returns Sunday with a new home on Wilmington's Riverfront and possibly bigger crowds than ever. The festival runs from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at 600 Delmarva Lane, and admission is free.

Nostalgia will be on full display at this weekend's Wilmo a Go Go car show in Wilmington

PLAN

There's a good chance you're going to the beach this weekend. And if not this weekend, sometime soon.

Here's the skinny on parking and new rules at Delaware's beaches.

And here are the exciting new places to eat while you're there, whether it's at a high-end steakhouse in Rehoboth Beach or with waterfront views in Lewes. And did we mention MezCali Taqueria in Dewey

STRETCH, SNUGGLE

Not many yoga studios have to give clients a heads up that nibbles are included in the price.

But at Goat Joy near Harbeson, gentle nibbles and cuddles from bouncing baby goats are just as much a part of the class as the yoga itself.

“It’s rare to see the whole class in the same pose,” said Goat Joy owner Laura Ritter, who runs the new Sussex County business with her 20-year-old daughter Amanda at their family farm off Beaverdam Road.

Goat yoga classes are held on Saturdays for $15 per person and goat socials (no yoga involved!) are on Sundays. For more info, visit www.goatjoy.com.

DROOL

Johnnie's Dog House and Chicken Shack just got a shout out from People magazine.

The casual Talleyville eatery's Delaware Destroyer is featured in the May 28 issue.

The article "Best Hot Dogs in Every State" zeroes in on the double dog from the 3401 Concord Pike eatery that's owned by Mark Raphaelson.

In case you were wondering (and hungry), the Delaware Destroyer ($6.99) is two hot dogs served on a 6-inch hoagie roll, topped with macaroni and cheese, chili, grilled onions and hot sauce.  Read all about it.

ROCK

Four years after indie rocker Annie Clark (a.k.a. St. Vincent) performed Nirvana’s “Lithium” with the surviving members of the band at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, she is coming to Delaware for the first time.

And it shouldn’t come as a surprise that Friday’s hotly anticipated show at The Queen (500 N. Market St.) by the former member of The Polyphonic Spree member is already sold out.

The act’s “I Am A Lot Like You!” tour will let a performance rip starting at 8 p.m. and if you want in, you’ll have to hit the online secondary ticket market.

At press time, there were tickets available on StubHub for $35 each.

Under Live Nation, The Queen has been racking up sellouts this year, including Brett Young, Blues Traveler and the Marshall Tucker Band.

Sunday’s 8 p.m. show by Firefly Music Festival alum Fitz & the Tantrums ($29.50) is approaching sell-out status as well with only a limited number of tickets still available.

DANCE

Bands at the beach? Here’s who’s playing where this weekend.

Let’s goooo!

GET OUT

Outdoorsy folk and families will be heading to Milton this weekend for the annual Horseshoe Crab & Shorebird Festival.

For the first time, special events ran Thursday and are continuing Friday in downtown Milton instead of the typically one-day affair on Saturday. The main events remain on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., though, with the eco-friendly fest offering guided nature walks, birding opportunities, a horseshoe crab touch tank and other activities at Prime Hook National Wildlife Refuge, while the Milton Municipal Park hosts nature-themed vendors, kayak rentals, music, food trucks and kids’ activities.

There is a free shuttle bus running between the two venues, and the festival is free with the exception of some of the special events.
