It's OK to stare at bras at The Centre at Salisbury

Imaginatively decorated bras will be on display at The Centre at Salisbury mall through May 31.

If you happen to be going to The Centre at Salisbury mall in May, be forewarned: You will see a lot of bras. You might not recognize all of them as bras, but trust me, they started out as bras.

It's the sixth annual Bras for a Cause competition hosted by Women Supporting Women, actually, and it's a unique and fun way to raise money for the Delmarva support group that provides a lifeline to women (and men) who are affected by breast cancer.

What better way to promote breast cancer awareness and raise funds to pay for the services provided by Women Supporting Women than by having a decorated-bra competition?

The bras, loosely speaking, are on display in the area in front of the former JCPenney store. Don't worry, you won't be embarrassed – unless puns, creativity and bad jokes upset you.

Check it out next time you're at the mall. It's a fun competition, and you, the viewing public, can contribute by using your dollar bills to vote for your favorites. Ballot stuffing is encouraged – vote early, vote often and come back before the month of May ends to vote again. If you can't make it to the mall, visit www.firstgiving.com/womensupportingwomen/2016-bras-for-a-cause#, click on "donate" and at the bottom right of the list, click "view all." You can look at the entries and donate to your favorite entrant.

Look for an inspiring story in the Saturday, April 30, Voices section about a family of strong women who have stared breast cancer in the eyes and continue to make a stand – and learn how they've made Bras for a Cause a family tradition.
