Police, Black Lives Matter activists both in the wrong

Protesters march through Baltimore the day after charges were announced against the police officers involved in Freddie Gray's death.

To police and black activists alike, I cynically point out that nothing says “I deserve respect” like slaughtering people simply because you can.

The internet is now ablaze with venomous rhetoric on both sides, supporting such insanity.

Meanwhile ...

If black lives truly mattered, the Black Lives Matter movement would long ago have cleared their neighborhood streets of peers who terrorize the community and are responsible for the majority of dead young black males in this nation.

If blue lives truly mattered, law enforcement agencies would long ago have purged their ranks of ’roid-raging psychopaths who should have access to neither a badge nor a gun.

Both camps play the blame/victim game while neither has been honest or introspective enough to get its own house in order.

Thus it has been for several decades.

Do not look to politicians for solutions, as they will play both sides against the middle without regard for the consequences.

All effective change comes from within. Perhaps when you are both right with your own selves, a dialogue will break out.

One can only hope.
