Elena Delle Donne will have surgery on her right thumb Tuesday and be out indefinitely, the WNBA's Chicago Sky announced Monday.

Delle Donne, the Ursuline Academy and University of Delaware grad who was 2015 WNBA MVP, is averaging 21.5 points, second in the league, and 7.0 rebounds per game. Her 93.5 free-throw percentage leads the WNBA.

She was injured in a game last Wednesday and missed Friday's and Sunday's games.

The Sky has gone 5-2 since Delle Donne, its only Olympian, returned from Brazil after being part of the U.S. gold-medal team. The WNBA took a month-long break for the Olympics.

Chicago (21-13) has three games left in the regular season, which ends Sunday, and has already clinched a berth in the playoffs.
